Let me start by saying PowWeb is a great host with some great prices for basic web sites. I have been running a site on PowWeb for something like 6 or 7 years now. It is very stable and reliable for basic web sites, and my main site never has any problems. The biggest problem I have with PowWeb, and the reason I am looking for a new host? Their perl set-up is not the best. The most intricate part of my web site is an installation of the YaBB message forum software. Several times over the years, PowWeb has made changes to how they handle their perl installation that has caused large numbers of users' scripts to stop working. PowWeb almost always tries to blame this on the users, for hours or days at a time. Yet when the users make no changes to their scripts, everybody's scripts start working again at the same time ... which indicates to me that the problem is actually on PowWeb's end, though they will never admit it. This usually means about a week worth of days a year that the forum doesn't work. This year has been particularly bad, with several missed weeks. Also there have been issues with e-mails that get bounced, even though PowWeb assures me that I have turned off all spam filters and other types of things. So overall, I highly recommend PowWeb, as long as you don't plan to use complicated perl message forum software. If you do plan on perl forums, I would highly suggest finding somebody else to host with.
