Comparing PrestaShop and Magento Shopping Carts

  • March 09, 2013

PrestaShop and Magento are two very popular eCommerce tools of choice for small businesses to set up a simple online store. But how do these two compare against each other?

Magento has been one of the more popular choices for eCommerce shopping cart platforms in the market. An open source shopping cart, Magento provides online merchants with the flexibility and control over content, look and feel of their online store.

On the other hand, Prestashop is an award-winning eCommerce shopping cart platform with a huge online community; over 125,000 online stores and an extensive features list. PrestaShop has gained a lot of popularity in some markets recently and is a very robust solution.

Since they both have large communities, both platforms have a large collection of plugins and extensions, with Magento boasting over 1,500 extensions and PrestaShop catching up fast. PrestaShop has made it easy for web hosts to offer it to their end clients by integrating with 1-click script installers and grabbing a new market. And research from Google Trends shows that PrestaShop is rising slowly and catching up with Magento in terms of search popularity.

You can read a more in-depth analysis of both shopping cart platforms and decide for yourself which one you think is better. If you have any other suggestions in mind, feel free to leave your comments and let us know.
