Namecheap Web Hosting Company History

Namecheap was founded in 2000. Back then, the company only offered domain registrar services. But, thanks to its success, the company quickly expanded into other services, including web hosting. In 2020, Namecheap claimed that it had over 12 million domains registered.

Let’s look at Namecheap’s services, features, and plans.

Namecheap Plans & Pricing (2022)

Namecheap has six types of hosting services, with different plans for each. Annual plans start at $1.88/month for shared hosting.

This section will take a closer look at Namecheap’s hosting plans, their pros, cons, and key features.

Shared Hosting

Namecheap shared hosting review

As we’ll discuss when analyzing the pros of Namecheap, the company’s basic shared hosting plans are highly competitive. Namecheap’s shared hosting is one of the cheapest options available. This commitment to cost-effectiveness truly honours the company’s name.

Namecheap has three options for shared hosting plans:

  • Stellar includes a free domain name, three websites, and 20 GB of SSD storage. This plan starts at $1.48/month for the first year.
  • Stellar Plus includes a free domain name, unlimited websites, unmetered SSD, and auto backup. This plan starts at $2.98/month for the first year.
  • Stellar Business includes a free domain name, unlimited websites, 50 GB of SSD storage, auto backup, and cloud storage. This plan starts at $3.78/month for the first year.

Additionally, all three plans include:

  • Unmetered bandwidth
  • Access to a website builder
  • A free domain name and privacy protection
  • SSL certificates
  • A 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Free “in 24 hours” website migration
  • Free CDN

These features make Namecheap’s shared hosting plans a powerful solution, at a very competitive price point.

Although these hosting plans are quite generous, shared hosting always has limitations. If you’re working to scale your site, you should gravitate towards a different type of hosting plan. For instance, Managed WordPress Hosting.

Managed WordPress Hosting

Namecheap Managed WordPress

Namecheap offers three Managed WordPress hosting plans:

  • EasyWP Starter, which starts at $17.44 per month during the first year
  • EasyWP Turbo, which starts at $39.44 during the first year
  • EasyWP Supersonic, which starts at $54.88 during the first year

The Turbo and Supersonic plans include a feature that’s characteristic of all major hosting service providers: Access to a Content Delivery Network. This guarantees that your websites will be fast, regardless of your users’ location.

Every plan includes:

  • Hosting for one WordPress site
  • One-click WordPress installation
  • Free migration
  • SFTP file access
  • Automatic updates
  • Automatic backups
  • A Caching Plugin
  • 24/7 support

Storage ranges from 10 GB to 100 GB. The Starter plan can support up to 50k visitors per month. The Supersonic plan supports 500k.

However, one downside is that with every plan, you’re only able to run one site. Multisite installs are not supported. Nonetheless, this isn’t uncommon among Managed WordPress providers.

VPS Hosting

Namecheap’s Virtual Private Server plans include:

  • Full root access and Operating System (OS) selection
  • Your choice of Server Management (User-responsible, Basic and Complete)
  • Free migration
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

The provider offers two plans: Pulsar and Quasar.

The Pulsar VPS hosting plan includes two CPU cores, 2 GB RAM, 40 GB of SSD RAID 10 storage, and 1000 GB of bandwidth. This plan starts at $9.88/month (billed annually).

The Quasar VPS hosting plan gets you four CPU cores, 6 GB RAM, 120 GB of SSD RAID 10 storage, and 3000 GB of bandwidth. This plan starts at $17.88/month (billed annually).

With the Basic and Complete Server Management options (SMO) - which cost an additional $10 and  $25 per month respectively- you get:

  • Monitoring with “proactive response” if any issues are detected
  • Vendor updates

If you choose the Complete option, you’ll also get a 100 GB weekly backup.

In this area, Namecheap doesn’t deliver significantly more than its competitors. Other hosting companies provide a wider range of storage and performance options, as well as better support and extra services. VPS hosting may not be Namecheap’s strong suit, but these plans may be a good fit for beginners.

Dedicated Server Plans

Namecheap dedicated servers review

Namecheap offers three Dedicated Server Plans:

  • Xeon E3-1230 v5, which includes 4 cores @ 3.4 GHz, 16 GB DDR4, 4 x 500 GB HDD storage, and 100 TB of bandwidth per month. This plan starts at $56.88 per month.
  • Xeon E-2236, which includes 6 cores @ 3.4 GHz, 32 GB DDR4, 2 x 480 GB SSD storage and 100 TB of monthly bandwidth. This plan starts at $58.88 per month.
  • Dual AMD EPYC 7282, which includes Dual 16 cores @ 2.8 GH, 128 GB DDR4, 4 x 1.92 TB NVMe storage, 500 GB Backup Storage and unmetered bandwidth. This plan starts at $279.88 per month.

You can purchase any of these plans on a quarterly or yearly basis, for more convenient pricing.

When it comes to dedicated servers, Namecheap offers some competitive features, at a very reasonable price point. The company invites you to choose between entry-level, medium-level, and high-level servers, so prices vary beyond the three plans we mentioned. There’s also an outlet section, for those on a budget.

Cloud Hosting Plans

Namecheap does not offer cloud hosting plans. But, the company incorporates cloud hosting in its managed WordPress plans. This guarantees solid uptime and good performance.

Website Builder Plans

Namecheap includes a visual site builder in all its shared hosting plans, but you can also access this builder independently.

Site Maker is available through Visual.com. You can get started at just $38.88 per year. All plans come with a free .contact, .design or .xyz domain.

Site Maker has many limitations. Unlike other visual website builders, it doesn’t come with eCommerce or lead capture tools. Results are more similar to a Linktree or Carrd site than to a fully functional company site.

eCommerce Hosting

Namecheap doesn’t offer any eCommerce hosting plans. However, its Managed WordPress hosting plans are very competitive. With managed WordPress, you can set up a robust WooCommerce store.

Reseller Hosting Plans

Namecheap reseller hosting

Namecheap offers three different reseller hosting plans:

  • Nebula
  • Galaxy Expert
  • Universe Pro

Ranging from $19.88 up to $58.88$ per month, all plans include:

  • Unmetered bandwidth
  • Free cPanel
  • Namecheap’s typical 30-day money-back guarantee

Nebula only offers 30 GB of storage, which puts it behind some competitors. But the other two plans come to make up for this shortfall, offering up to 150GB, and 100-150 cPanel accounts (in comparison with the 25 of the initial plan).

Pros & Cons

In this section, we’ll discuss some of the major benefits that Hostinger customers get to enjoy as well as some drawbacks to help make an informed decision for your website.

Namecheap pros and cons

Pros

Namecheap’s starter hosting plans are extremely budget-friendly, without compromising key features.

By offering good entry-level hosting, Namecheap increases the chance that exigent users stay with them, even as they move to more generous plans.

Moreover, the website management experience on Namecheap is pretty accessible. Its simple interface lets non-techies get the job done without getting bogged down in elaborate processes.

Namecheap offers forever free domain privacy. With Namecheap, your address, legal name, and other information behind your domain will be kept secret forever.

Namecheap’s money-back guarantee is another reason why users try the service. You have an entire month to test run Namecheap and verify if it meets your needs.

Cons

Unlike other hosting companies, Namecheap doesn’t offer phone support. This can make for an uncomfortable and slow support experience.

On the other hand, the EasyWP panel (present in all Managed WordPress plans) was designed for beginners. Therefore, it can seem restrictive to expert users. VPS plans are also limited.

While Namecheap offers an uptime of 99.94%, its average response time is 765ms. A survey by LittleData found that, across 6,652 eCommerce sites, there was an average speed of 411ms. The top 10% of websites have a response speed of less than 189ms.
